Customer Reviews about Dakota Pediatric Dentistry

editing my review after seeing AT LEAST 3 different replies to my review. This last one being the most unprofessional attempt to discredit me and my review instead of accepting a little constructive criticism and finding better solutions for those customers with disabilities. We travel a lot so, of course i have several reviews in different states. Statistically, most reviews are written by unhappy consumers. If you check my profile, i do, in fact, try to also remember leaving reviews for places we were really happy with and there are several 5 star reviews left by me on different businesses... I was very optimistic about using this dentist after reading all of the positive reviews. Everyone was very friendly and the facility was very clean with fun beach-theme decor. I was told they "have a lot of experience working with kids with autism" when booking our appointment. Though our oldest doesn't have an autism diagnosis he has some significant sensory issues often seen with autism and a developmental language disorder. I stressed the things i knew he'd struggle with when booking the appointment and again before the appointment while we were filing out paperwork. We tried preparing him for the appointment by "playing dentist" at home and hoped for the best because he was having a really good morning. He ended up being very sensory overloaded with all the decor and toys and we spent more time filling out paperwork than the combined time the assistant and dentist spent with BOTH of our children. The baby has "stranger danger" so we just cruised him through it quick and he was over the whole thing very quickly. But that same approach, quickly forcing a large toddler with the issues ours faces is not a good approach at all. He never got any time to warm up to people or feel comfortable. We tried to get his teeth checked first but he started getting extremely anxious and panicky so we moved onto the youngest, that was over quickly and i asked the doctor if he wanted to try to quickly peek at the toddlers teeth (again, the time we actually spent with any staff for their appointments was very, very minimal at this point) we were told they didn't have time to look because they had other patients. We were extremely disappointed. Though everyone was friendly, nothing about this experience showed us they have "a lot of experience" working with kids with autism/sensory issues. If we wouldve just held him down and forced the exam/ cleaning on him in that situation (which is the only thing they suggested or offered to try), it would've taken him days to "recover". This might sound silly or overbearing to people whose kids are fortunate enough to not struggle with these issues but, other families who are in similar situations will understand. I'm bummed they at least didn't book us for a little bit of an extended appointment time (even if we had to pay more) to try to help him have a good experience. Maybe for "typical" kids like our youngest, this place would be wonderful. The only other issue we had was the policy you had to sign that said once a child is 4 years old, a parent isn't allowed to be in the room with him/her during the exam.... that's probably fine for a child who's been seeing those familiar faces their whole life but for someone new to town with a child affected with autism or sensory issues, that's not something someone with experience with these disorders would recommend. But, they don't adjust that policy on a case by case basis...

  • Both my kids (2 and 5) have been going there the past 3 years! The staff has always been helpful, informative and extremely friendly, exactly what we like in any medical practice we go to. My 5 year old has behavioral and sensory issues and Dr. Chad has always been great with keeping her comfortable. She had teeth extracted before and after that I was sure she would be traumatized but with the help of Dr. Chad and his staff she quickly bounced back and loves the dentist aging and looks forward to going! My son who is 2 has many dental problems. He recently went under quite a bit of dental work, which we decided to go through the hospital to help get better looks at the overall picture as well as the work that needed to be done. It was a hard decision deciding to have him go under, but Dr. Chad made me very comfortable with him doing it, and I was able to go back with him until he was asleep. We've had two dental emergencies and both time they have been able to get us in quickly within the same day. The office is extremely clean and fun for all ages. I would HIGHLY recommend them!
